Official Unclaimed Property List 2026: Search Your Name in All 50 States

Did you know that US state treasuries are currently holding over $49 Billion in unclaimed cash? This isn’t a scam—this is lost money from old savings accounts, uncashed payroll checks, utility deposits, and insurance payouts.

According to the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA), 1 in 10 Americans has money waiting to be claimed. If you don’t search, the state keeps it.

Step 2: How to Search Correctly

Once you have selected your state, follow these instructions to avoid scams. Legitimate government searches are always FREE.

1. Search the Multi-State Database

Most states upload their data to MissingMoney.com. It is the safest way to check multiple states at once (useful if you have moved recently).

  • Enter your Last Name and First Name.
  • If you find a match, click “Claim” and follow the ID verification process.

2. Check for Federal Tax Refunds

The state treasury only holds local money. For federal tax refunds that were undelivered, you must check the IRS website using the “Where’s My Refund” tool.

3. Unclaimed Pensions

If you worked for a company that went out of business, you might have an unpaid pension. Search the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) database.
